Inspiration from others

Some of us are born with the ability to draw, some of us aren't and maybe struggle when we try. This never meant art is only for the chosen. Everyone can draw and get better through experience, trial and error. There were times I felt I just wasn't good enough, but I kept trying, and I learned from my mistakes. Art came naturally to me as a kid. While growing up and over time, it was amazing to see how one can get better regardless of the feeling there's no more room for improvement. Art was only a hobby to me until a person I sketched for insisted on paying me. Since then, I considered art as an income as well. Art is and will always be a passion to me and a way to express myself, just like it can be to anyone else. I've started doing portraits around 6 years ago when I saw a photo in a magazine that really caught my attention, then started sketching my own kids and friends started asking me to sketch for them as well. I've only been more serious about my sketches for the last 3 years. The growth I've seen in my work is really amazing. It's important to find your own art style and never compare your art to others work. One advice that really helped my art stand out is that we should never be afraid to go darker. It makes the art work stand out when you have different contrast on the page Creativity is in each of us, and art is a great way to share it with. Whether it's as a pass time, a way of expression, or a way to make a living, art is for anyone as long as they choose to.

Tracey

Tracey Lange

For all my life, I thought I would be a woman who would find a job that would be the good job whereby I arrive at work the same time every day, earn my salary, have my medical aid and pension and that would be life because at least I would be able to put food on the table and have a comfortable life.

Then one day I met a life coach who opened my eyes to the fact that there's a child inside of me, that's always going to be there and going to want to play. I started allowing myself more freedom to play and doing fun things, while still doing my 'responsible' job daily.

I've always believed that being creative has to do with drawing or painting or writing books, but being creative is about more than that. It's about allowing your inner child to play and I've since learned that when I allow my inner child to play and just have fun, I come up with more ideas for radio and tv and come up with great concepts for my daily work.

We need to learn to allow our inner children to play and thus allow ourselves more freedom. It's since allowing my inner child to play that I ended up full time in radio and on TV and also producing my programmes on both radio and tv, because my creativity has grown in leaps and bounds.
